Zee Triplett, Head Coach of Track and Field

Zee Triplett is excited to begin her fourth year as Head Coach with the Cascade Striders. Prior to that she was the lead long jump coach with the team for three seasons and also assisted with hurdles and the 5-6 age group.

Zee is a lifelong track and field enthusiast and participant who began running at the age of 9. During her elementary, middle, and high school years she qualified for, and competed in several AAU and USATF Youth National and Junior Olympics. She was consistently ranked among the top long jumpers and 100 meter dash athletes in the nation over a 5 year period. She was the recipient of a USA Track and Field High School Academic Achievement Scholarship and also earned a full athletic scholarship to the University of Washington, Seattle (UW). 

During her collegiate career she completed 4 indoor and outdoor seasons and outdoor Pac-10 Championships in various events (Long Jump, 4x100meter relay, 100 meter hurdles, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and 4x400 meter relay). She was the team’s top female long jumper her sophomore, junior, and senior years and was selected as team captain her junior and senior years. She is on the UW’s top 10 all-time long jump performer’s list.

Zee is a USA Track and Field (USATF) Level 1 certified Coach and a USATF Registered Coach. She continues to blend her experience as an elite athlete with her passion for lifelong learning and healthy promotion of the sport through consulting with colleagues, coaches, online resources, webinars, blogs, books, and the athletes.

In addition to coaching the Cascade Striders; Zee has also coached for a City of Seattle Recreation Center track team, an elementary and middle school team, and has provided private coaching sessions.

Lead Coaches

Craig Collier, Club President

Speciality: Distance

Years with team: 11 years: 3 as a coach/ parent and 8 as an athlete (my first coach was our founder, Cliff Nixon)

Athletic background: Competed in track and cross country for Cascade Striders, Interlake HS, and the University of Washington. Also competed in swimming starting in a youth club at age 9 and continued through high school.

Overview of children on team: Daughter Sydney is starting her 5th year of track and cross country and is only in the 7-8 age group!

Coaching credentials: Level 1 USATF Certified

Philosophy or mantra: First, it has to be fun. My goal is to make life long runners. Next, teach the kids how to work hard and push themselves to accomplish things beyond what they think they're capable of. Finally, ensure the kids aren't over doing it. These are young athletes and overtraining leads to injury and burnout. Again, my goal is to make life long runners.

Current athletic goals: Stay injury free so I can enjoy running with the kids.

Favorite snack after a tough workout: A Slurpee, but only after a super hard session of speedwork on a hot, sunny day.

Damon Daniels

Coaching specialties: Damon has over 20 years coaching experience in football, basketball and track. His specialty is strength training and conditioning.

Years with Cascade Striders: 6 years

Athletic background: Damon was a 4 sport athlete growing up in Tacoma, Washington. In high school he was a 3 year starter in football and basketball where he earned all-league, all-area and all-state recognition. He excelled in both sports and received a scholarship to play football at the University of Idaho. In 1992, Damon was selected to play professionally in Europe and was an all pro running back for the Paris Dragons in the World Football League of American Football. Throughout the years Damon has developed a passion to train and has been working with athletes from youth to professional to improve their athletic performance.

Coaching philosophy or mantra: "Better your best". Always do better than you did the day before.

Current athletic goal: After having a good taste of the USATF National program, Damon's goal is get more Striders to that venue and continue the great strides this program has made over the years

Favorite snack after a hard workout: Peanut Butter

Joe Johnson, Lead Distance Coach

Coaching specialty: Distance (800, 1500, 3000m, Steeplechase, and other creative paths to exhaustion)

Years with Cascade Striders: This will be Coach Joe's 11th season

Athletic background: Joe has been an avid distance runner since elementary school. In high school, he won an individual state championship and led his team to two back-to-back state titles. He credits distance running as a key to his admission to Harvard University, where he ran 10 varsity seasons at the Division I level.

Coaching philosophy or mantra: His emphasis first is on the love of running, and then on the love of pushing one's self to new limits. Everything else, he says, seems to take care of itself.

Current athletic goals: His primary goal is to provide to motivated athletes the same guidance and opportunities that he received, to afford them the same academic possibilities. And to get everyone involved really, really tired.

Favorite snack after a hard workout: Mile repeats.

Keith Baker

Coaching specialties: Hurdles, sprints and relays

Years with Cascade Striders: This will be our family's 4th season.

Athletic background: Ran track in high school & placed 5th in state in the 110m high hurdles (1984). Also played a little basketball and football. Ran track at Central Washington University & graduated in 1992. 5 time All-American and National Champion in the high hurdles. Still the current school record holder since 1991. Inducted into the CWU Hall of Fame in 2014. Also anchored the 4 x 100m relay to 4 consecutive league championships. Also ran the 100m and 200m. 2015 school article ranked me as the #7 athlete in the history of CWU. Played 1 year of football in college. IFBB Pro in Men's Physique division (bodybuilding).

Overview of kids in program: I have 4 kids in the program that compete in sprints and field events.

Coaching philosophy or mantra: You compete the way you practice! To be 1st you have to train like you're 2nd!

Current athletic goals: Compete in Master's track program and IFBB Pro competitions

Stephanie Brunner

Coaching specialty: Distance

Athletic background: Ran distance (track and cross country) through college.

Suzanne Olson

Coaching specialty: Distance

Years with Cascade Striders: 5 years

Athletic background: Life-long athlete, starting running for fitness in college, currently age-group triathlete and distance runner
